Favorite House Details

This blog is a central location for all aspects of the master plan for our home. I have categorized all of the photos I have collected for many years, explaining why I have chosen certain homes, rooms, gardens, furnishings, etc. The clutter of magazines and books, and trying to convey the same thoughts to various different people was difficult. The hope is to clarify our ideas in quick reference pages, so that the professionals helping us will fully understand what we are trying to accomplish.

A quote from architect Johnathan Miller...

This summary articulated very well the thoughts I have had about the design of our home. I found it long after I created this blog, but it seems aligned with the ideas I have been trying to convey....

I like to think of a home as the largest sculpture in a garden. A house or building should always take the land into consideration: the topography, the sun, and the view. A house through the use of its form and scale should complete its surrounding not compete with it. Wherever possible a home should establish new outside places, or new outside rooms; these might be gardens, lawns, terraces, or courtyards. These outdoor rooms invite the natural world into a home and establish a setting for the home to become part of nature.
