I try to pick pieces that appeal to me on their own, and then look at them with pieces I already own, or even and other pieces I am considering to "test" whether or not I can picture it long term. Sometimes things jump right out to me as "feeling" like they belong in my house, and other items I have picked things because they were single elements that always seemed to be included in various designer rooms that I have admired. Both ways seem to work for me.
This is a Woodland chest. I like that it has a finish that is light, providing some contrast against the darker woods and fabrics, but still looks heavy enough to go with my other furnishings.
I love the upholstered slipper chairs in this photo. The scalloped detail at the bottom is special.
This is a Pindler fabric called Ucello. It is also on the Host and Hostess wingback chairs if a Dining Room I like. Unfortunately it is much more silky and formal looking in person. From both photos, I thought it would be almost like a needlepoint, which is exactly what I would want. I love the red color and the design though.
These pillows have great fabric and cording. It looks casual and tossable, but upscale.
Something like this might be a great addition to our bedroom.
I had admired these pillows at Kellogg Collection years ago. Aubusson is not very soft, or kid friendly, so I decided to wait on them. I love anything that has deer, dogs, birds, trees, antlers, etc....but used sparingly so that my house does not end up looking like a lodge.
Guy Chaddock Dining table
Burton James Sectional. I really want a sectional in the family room, but I never pick out rooms I like with them. I thought this one had some nice detail.
Another Burton James sectional.
Emerson et cie game table. I have a folding game table from Theodore Alexander, but I will probably upgrade for the new Great Room.
Bausman bar stool.
Colibri samll table. I love the hoof detail.
Hamilton Lamp table.
Pine cone original prints. The frames are spectacular close up. I want to do something like this in my staircase.
Owned pieces I would like to work into the new design....
This section will outline furnishings we want to use in our renovated home. I will be providing measurements and an idea of where these things might fit too. If we decide where everything is going ahead of time, I can still change wall lengths to make sure things fit. It will also help us decide what furniture we need to purchase so that we can start to order items.
Painted Buffet from Slapdash, a artist group in Mill Valley CA that buys reproduction antiques and paints them into whimsical rustic pieces of art. We found this piece about 12 years ago in a shop called Summer House and had it shipped to our Falls Church Cape Cod. It measures 64" wide x 36" high x 20.25" depth.
Also pictured are...
- Two painted lamps 32" high with 17 wide shades
- Blue and cream ceramic platter 18.5" diameter
This is a cocktail table from Woodland Furniture measuring 48" x 32"
This is a Sligh clock. I just love the shape. I bought it because of that and the black rustic chinoiserie finish. I have a few black pieces and in our old home, I tried to distribute them throughout the house for a little drama with all the deep muted colors. I think black adds a formality without going to far towards a formal look.
