We want the water feature to be a gurgling bolder, but a stone pebble return, not a pond to ensure saftey and keep wet sneakers to a minimum. :) It will be visible from the veranda through the entrance trellis, so in my opinion, the boulder should be of significant scale, but tucked into the landscape with plantings so that it looks "secret garden" like, rather than just a planned water feature.
Charles agreed. Larry's discussion with Charles months ago was that there would be a very large boulder which they would drill a whole through. This would then be set in a large 6x6 water tray, which would be covered by a grate, and then covered with small river rocks to allow the water to drain and recirculate without having a large pond to deal with. This entire gurgling rock feature would be surrounded by rocks and other small boulders. The overall affect needed to ensure that this feature was substantial enough to be in line with the general scope of the project.
This fountain is from a company called Southern Grace out in Madison VA. It is concrete formed to look like a boulder. This fountain comes in two sizes and is priced betwwen $899 and $1299 including the basin and pump. I saw it at Merrifield in the spring and it is VERY realistic.
This photo is a real boulder.
Later, Devon and I found these small bridges at Merrifield and came up with the idea to do a small bridge at the end of the stone path as a transition to the artificial turf. We could extend the pebbles around the water feature under the bridge to simulate a creek. Bridge over water feature
