Climbing Wall Information

We are building a very customized play area for our family. All of the background on the project can be seen here. Currently, the building has the base coat of stucco applied and the color coat will go on this week. Then, the cedar trim boards and corbels will go on to give the building the barvarian look we want.

We need to drill the holes for the rock wall hardware soon. We need help to determine the number and type of holds we need. The age range of people using this playset is diverse, from age 2 and up, so we would be inclined to use pretty easy and large holds. Since we don't have a lot of experience with climbing, we could use some guidance.

Our playset was originally going to have one rock wall area, but we are now considering two locations. One on the side wall by the slide, and one off the back balcony.

The first one for just climbing, measuring 9 to 10 feet wide x 11ft tall. We may add a zip line that runs into the yard from this wall, so I would either want one of the holds to be extra large, or maybe even leave room to build a small ledge so that you could turn easily to position yourself on the zip line.

The second wall measires 3 ft. wide x 11 ft. tall, but has access to a balcony opening at an 8 ft. deck level. This balcony will also provide access to a firepole.
